A Walk Through Olde Town History
Olde Town is located near the original rail yards built in early 1872. In 1876, W. H. Monroe opened a hardware, grocery and drug store. A. B. McKay opened McKay Carriage Works in Grove City, and Josiah Cornelius started a brick making business. Isaac Ketler opened the “Select School”, a forerunner of Grove City College. As our community reclaims its architectural heritage in the 2006-2007 Downtown Revitalization project, we will renew the historic turn-of-the-century character which will adds to the nostalgic feeling of having "stepped back in time” which you will experience in Olde Town.
Most all of our shops occupy buildings constructed in the late 1800’s and early 1900's. Fires of 1890 and 1897 ravaged much of North Broad Street, but was stopped by Grove City Banking Company’s new fireproof building, now housing The Coffee Grove. A second fire ravaged the McKay Carriage Works at Center and Blair Streets. Twenty five bronze and stone Historical Markers create a walking tour of history highlighting some of the historic events and people who forged history in this community.

Also be sure to explore the remarkable stonework and woodwork of Tower Presbyterian Church, also on South Broad. Grace was organized in 1830 and Tower in 1842, both moving to their current homes in the early 1900s.
